Trial Trench Evaluation

YORK MINSTER

Trial trench evaluation is often required by planning archaeologists to assist with their advice to the local planning authorities regarding a site.

Trial trenching aims to evaluate a site through the excavation of exploratory trenches to assess the potential for, extent, and nature of, any surviving archaeological remains. The outcome of the evaluation may result in no further work, or a mitigation strategy.

The process can be used to consider how further archaeological works may affect the development programme in terms of cost and time.

We are also experienced in undertaking evaluation of sites through the use of boreholes, often in combination with geotechnical investigations.
