LANDSCAPE
SURVEY

YORK MINSTER

Landscape surveys involve a detailed investigation of a specific area to identify, document and interpret human activity within the landscape overtime.

Such surveys will generally include a phase of desk based research, followed by a non-invasive fieldwork phase of identification and systematic recording, which is then synthesised into a report. Such surveys may identify previously unknown sites or enhance the understanding of known ones, enabling a greater understanding of the archaeological and historical context of the site, helping to inform decisions on the long term management of sites.
